July Meeting

 
Artist: Tim Rose
Join us at our July 5th meeting where artist Tim Rose will be performing an Abstract Acrylic Painting.
Recognized by Southwest Art Magazine as "one to watch when looking to start your new art collection",
Oklahoma artist Tim Rose has been painting and teaching art at the high school and college level for over
22 years.  He did a still life oil painting demo for our group a few months ago and this time he returns to
give us some insight on working abstractly with acrylics.  A "must see" for everyone.

June Meeting

Join us at our June 7th Meeting where Mitsuno Ishii Reedy will once again display her great talent by giving a
Pastel Portrait demonstration.  Mitsuno has artwork on display at the State Capitol and in corporate displays
across the state.  Her commissioned portraits are in great demand.  She is represented by the Howell Gallery
in Oklahoma City, OK.
                                                
Mitsuno is a native of Osaka, Japan.  She began her career in the mid-1970's painting portraits.  She has studied
with notable pastel artists Albert Handell and Daniel Greene, and oil painters John Howard Sanden and David Leffel.

May Meeting

Arni Anderson
Thanks to Arni Anderson for performing a Watercolor demonstration at our May Meeting.  Arni
has a long career in teaching art but he is looking forward to retirement and being a full time
painter.  Toward that end, he has been creating at least one painting per day since the first of 2010.
The demonstration he completed for Mid-Del Art Guild became number 124 in the series he calls
"365/2010"

April Meeting

"Marketing Your Art"
A special thanks to: Nathan and Harvey Pratt
Nathan and Harvey Pratt gave a presentation about the business aspects
of being an artist and making sales. 

Nathan Pratt is a talented sculptor and his father, Harvey Pratt, is a world famous forensic artist. 
Harvey has experienced a long and successful career creating many other kinds of art besides
forensic reconstructions.  His time in the field has allowed him to observe changes in the art world
over the decades.  Nathan already has a history of thinking outside the
box when it comes to finding customers for his artwork.

At our March meeting, Artist Janet Katherine Massad  presented a demonstration
of Abstract Expressionist Oil Painting.  Janet was suggested by Rick McClure and she has
credentials a mile long!  Janet has taught throughout the USA and has been published Internationally.

    
"My talent is to help you find your path, identify your skills and help you get out of the box."
Janet has taught college level classes for over 20 years and has found her niche to be helping students
find THEIR niches, their personalities, and their artistic voices.

Jocile Heath

 
Our condolences to her family

Jocile passed away last month and was part of our family of artists for many years.  She was the strong
backbone of our Guild, our Membership Chairperson, and the go-to person for all kinds of things from
info about local artists to questions about guild procedures.  She stayed at her post and served all the
rest of us quietly and faithfully.  Eastern Oklahoma County has lost a great light and a stalwart, kind heart. 
Jocile will be sorely missed by all of us. 
Please keep her equally kind husband, Jim, in your prayers.

Tim Rose is a life long native of Oklahoma.  He has earned a Bachelor's degree in Art Education and a
Master's degree in Higher Education with an emphasis in the arts from the University of Central
Oklahoma.  He is an award winning art teacher including the Milken National Educator Award and is
a National Board Certified Teacher.  He has also received a Governor's Commendation in recognition
of his teaching.  He has been recognized in Southwest Art Magazine as one to watch when looking
to start your new art collection and has received numerous awards and recognitions for his paintings.

Thanks to Artist: Rick McClure
for performing his demonstration at our October Meeting

Rick McClure is an award winning "Plein Air" painter and teacher and has been painting
professionally for more than 25 years.  Throughout his career he has enjoyed success with a variety of
media including contemporary watercolor and large acrylic figurative works.  However, his true
passion is found in capturing both cityscape and landscape en plein aire.  Many of his on location
gems stand on their own while others form the basis for larger studio works.

Thanks to Artist: Dianna Ponting
for performing her demonstration at our August Meeting

Dianna Ponting wrapped up our member year with a pastel demonstration at our August
meeting.  Dianna is an international artist and pastel instructor with students and patrons in both
North America and Europe.   Her use of light, shadow and her ability to denote texture,
combine with rich color or subtle washes to result in a wonderfully distinctive style.

Dianna was born and raised in Canada.  And has travelled the world with her masterful artwork.

Bio:

J.P. Morrison works in a garage apartment 45 minutes from Tulsa, OK.  She got her BFA in painting and creative writing from the Kansas City Art Institute.  Before attending college classes, she was home schooled.

Artist Statement:

My artwork deals with the human psyche through symbolism, by composing the human form in a very particular posture surrounded by a surreal environment, animals, patterns, and the fantastic often accompany the figures.  These symbols embody my personal interpretation of the experience and feelings we move through during our lifetimes.

I capture my various subjects in a great variety of mediums dominated by colored pencil and paper collage.  Acrylics, Gouache, Paint-Marker and Pen are also often used.  Whatever media will best create the desired surface and depth, I use.  Since so many types of material go into my art, I work primarily on board.

Making visual connections between mental and physical experience as a way of interpreting the world is a tool I have used since early childhood.  "Image as Experience" categorizes the feelings and beliefs that make my life more interesting, and multi-dimensional.

The work is about these moments of experience or spirits within objects.  I believe a "spirit" can manifest in a specific feeling, moment, animal or thing, and often these "creatures" that develop from human interaction are what I try to capture.

Simply imagine that everything that is said, dreamed and felt, physically or emotionally, can be manifested in a kind of icon of the imagination.  That is my work.

Artist Irma Braun-Hampton performed the May demonstration where she gave instruction on creating Silk Paintings.

Biography

Irma Braun-Hampton is a silk painting artist from Germany. She received her diploma in Fashion Design from the College for Art and Fashion Design in Alf, Germany. Later she studied for several years with silk artist Ella Ott to hone her painting style. Irma has been teaching silk painting since 1986. Presently, she lives in Oklahoma City with her husband, working as Life Engagement Coordinator in a senior living community, and occasionally teaching out of her private studio. In recent years she also taught at the City Arts Center in OKC, at Francis Tuttle Vo-Tech, at the Fine Arts Institute in Edmond, and in Pine Bluff, AR. She has attended several invitational and juried shows throughout Oklahoma and is the proud recipient of juror’s awards.

How I See my Silk Painting Experience

"Silk is my favorite canvas to paint on. I like to compare it to living with my cat: incredibly soft to the touch (silky), it has an independent mind (each texture is different to work with), and a secret mood pattern (the moisture in the air affects the working condition). It can be elusive at times but I always feel rewarded by its affection when it cooperates with my desires to play (when the colors turn out just right).
