Joyce Perkins has dabbled in art ever since she was very small.  She won her first "art award" when she was just a first grader where she worked in crayon.  Later, while attending college, a friend suggested that she take up art and pursue her talent seriously, but unfortunately time would not allow because Joyce was working down the education path.  Eventually, she tried her hand at pencil drawing and oils, but never had the time to actively engage those techniques because her time was taken up by her teaching career, which she enjoyed, and raising a family.  When Joyce retired, she made a list of her top priorities which included things that she had placed on the back burner over the years.  Number one on the list was to try watercolors.  Under the tutelage of Betty Shaw in the continuing education classes at Rose State College, Joyce began working with watercolors in 2001.  Still life, flowers, and her grandchildren are her favorite subjects.
